Exploring Your Landscape with Digital Public History

I used the website Clio for this activity. I searched for my hometown and found entries about various people and places that I wouldn’t have known about if I didn’t search this website. It was a great experience to see some of the achievements that my local people did in their lives and where their story connects to a local building.

This website uses Google Maps and Google Earth to find the place that you searched for an also to see if in present day. There is also description about the person/place and any interviews or other related to that topic available on Youtube video and any transcripts.

This website is trying to get people to search for a town that is interesting to them and choose one of the many items that they might be interested in knowing more about. For some aspects and in some cases, it is not as useful to go to the place in which the person is being referenced to because it doesn’t add any real value but others it might be so. They are trying to get you to know more about the less-known people, places, events that happened in your hometown. With this website and in my hometown it might be difficult to walk around and find these places because they are far apart but I imagine with a city or smaller town it might be easier.

I enjoyed learning more about people who made contributions in some way and are from my hometown and seeing where they lived or the impact that they had on the community.
