Final Project Progress Update # 1
In the “Local Sites and Community History” Module for the course, I’m giving an update on my final project progress so far. You will know what challenges I’m facing as well as what I plan to do next.
What I have done so far on my project is downloaded various Omeka plugins that I need to have on my website. These plugins should give me the functionalities that I need on my website to make it interactive and more intuitive.
Those plugins that I downloaded and tested as I went along are:
- User Profiles
- (Created two users so far. One is admin and the other is Contributor)
- Simple Contact Form
- (Users can send comments/suggestions to me as the admin of the website)
- Maintenance
- (disabled this plugin because it is still in maintenance but I want to make sure people are able to see the progress so far. This plugin might be used in the future)
- Item Review
- (For Admin users to review Contributors users contribution to the website before making it public on the website)
- Contribution
- (Form for the Contributor users to submit their historical artifacts)
- Contributor Contact
- (For Admin users to contact Contributor users once their items are now visually public on the website)
- Record Relations
- Required for the User Profiles plugin.
- Attached the items added by users to their account
- Guest User
- Guest account for those not an admin or contributor.
The challenges I faced while installing these plugins are deciding which plugins would be useful to my website and enabling reCAPTCHA on my website. For some reason the reCAPTCHA is not working and I believe that it needs some time to sync with Google so I will check back in a few hours to see if it worked. It not, I will have to figure out why and probably redo it again. Adding reCAPTCHA adds a level of security to my website that I need to have to prevent some spam and bots.
Where I want to go next with my website is to add content for the home page, research more items to put into my exhibits for the Irish, American, and British Historical Overviews, and look at installing the Geolocation plugin.
