Hello and welcome, my name is Grace May and this is my final project for HIST 694: Digital Public History for the Spring semester of 2019.

I'm currently in the process of obtaining my masters degree in History with the Applied History and New Media and Information Technology along with the Digital Public Humanities certificate at George Mason University.

This Omeka website is about the Great Irish Potato Famine focusing on the time period of 1845 through 1850. It was inspired Christine Kinealy's Charity and the Great Hunger in Ireland: The Kindness of Strangers that I read my other class this semester, Disasters in History with Professor Kierner. In this book, Kinealy discusses the role and impact of charities and disaster relief in the wake of the Famine. I have added a few historical sources to get the users thinking about the Famine, what is available to them in the Public Domain to look at, and what can they contribute to this website. I wanted to expand on book and see if for this class, History 694 Digital Public Humanities, if the public had items related to the Famine and wished to contribute to this project by adding their artifacts to this website. The hope is to have users add to this website sources that they have found whether on the internet or within their personal library.
