Digital Public History

Survey of the Field

The field of Digital Public History (DPH) has changed dramatically over the past twenty years. With the rise of the Internet and all the new technologies and software being developed, it has made the DPH field reevaluate how they are displaying their information to the public.

Based on the activity of comparing digital exhibits from the late 1990s to 2014, one can see how the format and finding the right audience and has changed. The era of all text and reading page after page has become extinct and in favor of more interactive pages that the audience can get more excited about.

The qualities that I believe should of markers of good DPH work would be to make sure that your content and the format that it is displayed in is appropriate to audience, it has a purpose and is clearly stated, and get feedback as to what you could do to improve. Now of course this is just my basic assumption as to what I think it should be and hopefully as I move along in the course and learn more methods of DPH I can expand and change my qualities to fit that time.

DPH is looking to be the new frontier of making sure that the history provided to the audience is not only there but accurate. It needs to be tailored to the targeted audience but also experiment innovative ways of doing so. The beauty of DPH is that it is always changing as with software and the times that we live in.
